MSD Toxovax is a live, single-dose vaccine for sheep that provides lifetime immunity against toxoplasmosis.

INDICATIONS

  • Abortion and Stillbirth: Preventing “abortion storms” in flocks where ewes are exposed during mid-to-late gestation.
  • Barrenness: Reducing the incidence of ewes that fail to conceive or carry to term.
  • Early Embryonic Death: Preventing the loss of the embryo during the early stages of pregnancy.
  • Mummification: Reducing the occurrence of fetal death where the fetus remains in the uterus. 

ADMINISTRATION

    • Preparation:
      • Store the vaccine correctly (refrigerated) and shake the vial well before mixing.
      • Use clean, sterile equipment and sharp needles.
      • Wear protective gear like gloves and goggles when handling and reconstituting the live vaccine.
    • Reconstitution:
      • Mix the liquid concentrate with the provided solvent (Unisolve) following instructions.
      • Use all the reconstituted vaccine within 2 hours.
    • Injection:
      • Draw up a 2 mL dose.
      • Inject into the muscle in the front part (anterior) of the neck.
    • Timing:
      • Administer at least 3-4 weeks before tupping (mating).
      • Suitable for ewe lambs from 5 months and older ewes before mating.
    • Single Dose: One injection provides long-lasting immunity.
    • Live Vaccine: Requires careful handling as it contains live organisms.
    • Avoid During Pregnancy: Not for use in pregnant animals.
