IBAFLIN 3% Gel

Intervet IBAFLIN (Ibafloxacin)  is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used in to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms in dogs and cats, including pyoderma, wounds, abscesses, acute urinary tract infections (UTIs), and respiratory infections.

INDICATIONS

  • Dermal Infections: Treatment of superficial and deep pyoderma, wounds, and abscesses.
  • Urinary Tract Infections: Treatment of acute, uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
  • Respiratory Tract Infections: Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections in dogs and cats.
  • Soft Tissue Infections: In cats specifically, it is used for infections such as wounds and abscesses.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Route: Oral use only. The gel is applied into the mouth, often directly onto the tongue or mixed with food.
  • Dosage: The recommended dose is 15 mg ibafloxacin per kg body weight, once daily.
  • Concentration & Volume:
    • Ibaflin 3% Oral Gel (Dogs & Cats): 0.5 ml of gel per kg body weight.
    • Ibaflin 7.5% Oral Gel (Dogs Only): 1 ml of gel per 5 kg body weight.
  • Syringe Use: The medication comes in an adjustable, pre-filled, multi-dose syringe, which allows for accurate dosing based on the animal’s weight, usually in 0.5 ml or 1 ml steps.
  • Timing: While it can be given at any time, it is preferred to administer the gel at feeding time to ensure maximal bioavailability.
