MURICIN ointment (mupirocin) is a topical antibiotic ointment used to treat superficial bacterial skin infections in dogs.

INDICATIONS

• Skin Infections: Treatment of localized skin infections, superficial pyoderma, and bacterial dermatitis in dogs.
• Hot Spots: Used to treat acute moist dermatitis (hot spots) by reducing bacterial growth.
• Susceptible Bacteria: Effective against Staphylococcus species (including S. aureus and S. intermedius) and some gram-positive bacteria.
• Supportive Care: Used on secondary infections associated with small lacerations or abrasions. 

ADMINISTRATION

• Preparation: The affected area should be gently cleaned and dried before the ointment is applied.
• Application: Apply a small amount of ointment to the affected areas.
• Prevention of Licking: It is important to prevent the animal from licking or grooming the treated area for a period of time after application to ensure the medication remains on the skin. 
• Protection: In some cases, the treated area may be covered with a bandage,.
• Contraindications: This ointment should not be applied in or near the eyes, nose, or other mucous membranes.
