ANIMAX Ointment (containing Thiostrepton) is a topical medication for dogs and cats used to treat bacterial, yeast, and inflammatory skin conditions.

INDICATIONS

• Otitis Externa: Severe or chronic ear infections caused by bacteria or fungi.
• Dermatologic Disorders: Treatment of skin infections characterized by inflammation, including dry or exudative dermatitis, eczema, and seborrheic dermatitis.
• Interdigital Cysts: Infected or inflamed cysts between the toes in dogs and cats.
• Anal Gland Infections: Infections of the anal glands in dogs.
• Secondary Infections: Skin disorders complicated or threatened by bacterial and/or Candida albicans (candidal) infections. 

• Nystatin: Antifungal against Candida albicans.
• Neomycin Sulfate: Antibiotic for localized bacterial infections.
• Thiostrepton: Antibiotic for gram-positive organisms, including those resistant to other antibiotics.

ADMINISTRATION

• Wear Gloves: Use gloves during application or wash hands thoroughly immediately.
• Clean the Area: Thoroughly clean and dry the affected site to remove discharge, wax, or debris.
• Trim Hair: If necessary, trim excess hair from around the infection site to ensure the ointment reaches the skin. 

• Skin Disorders: The ointment is typically applied sparingly as a thin film over the affected area.
• Ear Infections: After cleaning the ear canal, the ear flap is lifted and a small number of drops are instilled directly into the canal.
• Cysts & Glands: The cyst or anal gland is typically drained first, and then the cavity is filled with the ointment.
