Sulfamethazine injection is used for treating bacterial infections in food-producing animals.
INDICATIONS
- Cattle & Calves: Treatment of bacterial respiratory disease, bacterial enteritis/scours, foot rot, diphtheria, and acute mastitis.
- Swine: Treatment of bacterial enteritis (scours), bacterial pneumonia, and mastitis.
- Sheep: Treatment of bacterial respiratory infections and coccidiosis.
- Poultry (Chickens/Turkeys): Treatment of cecal coccidiosis, Infectious Coryza, and acute fowl cholera.
- Horses: Treatment of strangles, navel ill, joint ill (septic arthritis), and bacterial enteritis.
ADMINISTRATION
- Intravenous (IV) Injection: Commonly used in large animals for rapid effect. It should be injected slowly, often via the jugular vein.
- Intramuscular (IM) Injection: Used to inject directly into muscle tissue (e.g., neck muscles).
- Subcutaneous (SC) Injection: Used in companion animals (dogs/cats) and sometimes in livestock, injecting into the loose skin, typically around the shoulder blades or ribs.
