Bimeda Pro-Pen-G is a long-acting antibiotic used to treat various moderate to severe bacterial infections in animals.

INDICATIONS

• Respiratory Infections: Pneumonia, upper respiratory infections.
• Skin & Soft Tissue: Erysipelas, abscesses, cellulitis.
• Gastrointestinal: Infections caused by sensitive organisms like E. coli, Salmonella, Clostridium.
• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Particularly effective due to high urine concentrations.
• Joint Infections: Arthritis.
• Mammary Gland Infections: Mastitis.
• Systemic Infections: Anthrax, diphtheria.
• Specific Pathogens: Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Erysipelothrix spp., Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Listeria spp., Corynebacterium spp., E. coli, Salmonella spp.. 

ADMINISTRATION

• Intramuscular (IM) Injection: This is the most common route for procaine penicillin G. For livestock like cattle and horses, the preferred site is the mid-neck muscle to optimize absorption and protect high-value meat cuts.
• Subcutaneous (SC) Injection: Specific combination products (e.g., Benzathine + Procaine) may be labeled for SC use in beef cattle only. It is vital to check the product label, as some SC-labeled products must not be given IM to avoid residue issues.
• Never Administer Intravenously (IV): These formulations are suspensions, not solutions. Accidental IV injection can cause fatal embolisms, seizures, or acute procaine toxicity in animals. 

• Standard Dose: Labeled doses are often 1 mL per 100 lbs of body weight once daily.
• Withdrawal Periods: Must be strictly followed to prevent drug residues in meat or milk. For many brands, meat withdrawal is 14–30 days, and milk withdrawal is 48–72 hours.
• Extra-Label Use: Veterinarians may prescribe higher doses for severe infections, but this significantly extends withdrawal times.
