ART VAX Vaccine

MSD's ART VAX vaccine is used to prevent turkey coryza caused by Bordetella avium rhinotracheitis. It is administered as a live bacterial vaccine to young turkeys, through a spray at one day of age, and again in drinking water at two weeks of age. A WVA Veterinary Medicine.

Bordetella avium vaccine is indicated for use in poultry and wild birds to prevent coryza (respiratory disease) in these species.

ADMINISTRATION

The vaccine is administered to healthy birds through one of two primary methods – as a coarse spray, or in drinking water.
  • Coarse Spray (Day 1): One-day-old turkey poults (young turkeys) can be vaccinated using a coarse spray method, typically in the hatchery. The rehydrated vaccine is mixed with non-chlorinated water according to manufacturer directions and sprayed.
  • Drinking Water (2 Weeks or Older): The vaccine can also be administered via drinking water for birds 2 weeks of age or older. Water is typically withheld from the turkeys for a period so they are thirsty, and the vaccine solution is provided as their sole source of water until consumed.
  • Booster Schedule: A two-dose regimen is typical. Poults vaccinated at one day old receive a second dose at 2-3 weeks of age in the drinking water.
