Cefazolin

Apotex Cefazolin is indicated for treating serious bacterial infections, and for surgical prophylaxis in dogs, cats, and horses.

Perioperative Prophylaxis: Used to prevent surgical site infections, commonly in orthopedic, cardiac, and general surgeries.
Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Treatment of infections such as pyoderma and abscesses.
Respiratory Tract Infections: Treatment of bacterial pneumonia or lower respiratory infections.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections.
Bone and Joint Infections: Treatment of osteomyelitis or septic arthritis.
Septicemia/Endocarditis: Used in severe, susceptible systemic

Intravenous (IV): Administered directly into a vein or through an IV line, usually slowly to prevent vomiting.
Intramuscular (IM): Injected into deep muscle tissue, such as the caudal thigh muscles (rear leg).
Subcutaneous (SC): Occasionally given under the skin.

Key Guidelines

Reconstitution: The powder form must be mixed with sterile water, bacteriostatic water, or sodium chloride injection.
Dosage: Common dosages range from 5 to 15 mg per pound (10 to 30 mg/kg).
Perioperative Use: For surgery, it is typically given IV 30-60 minutes before the incision.
