Dotfar Ceftiofur Injection is a broad-spectrum antibiotic indicated for treating bacterial infections in livestock, primarily cattle and swine. It is used to treat respiratory diseases, acute metritis, and foot rot. A CODEX, WOAH and WVA Veterinary Medicine.

INDICATIONS

  • Cattle: Treats bovine respiratory disease (shipping fever, pneumonia) linked to M. haemolytica, P. multocida, and H. somni. It is also indicated for acute interdigital necrobacillosis (foot rot) caused by F. necrophorum and B. melaninogenicus, as well as acute post-partum metritis.
  • Swine: Used for bacterial respiratory disease associated with A. pleuropneumoniae, P. multocida, and S. suis.
  • Sheep & Goats: Indicated for respiratory diseases, including pneumonia associated with M. haemolytica, along with metritis and foot rot.
  • Horses: Used for respiratory infections associated with S. zooepidemicus.
  • Day-old Chicks/Turkey Poults: Used to control early mortality linked to bacterial infections.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Administration Routes: Primarily intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneous (SC). In cattle, some formulations are given SC at the base of the ear.
  • Dosage & Frequency: Varies by species and formulation (e.g., cattle often 1-2 mg/kg IM daily; swine 3-5 mg/kg IM daily; dogs 1-2 mg/kg SC daily).
  • Preparation: Shake well before use if it is a suspension.
  • Safety Precaution: Never administer intravenously (into a blood vessel) as this can cause sudden death.
  • Technique: Use a 16-18 gauge needle for large animals, and for SC, lift the skin and inject parallel to the body.
