Copper Bullets bolus are used for the prevention and treatment of primary and secondary copper deficiency in ruminants such as cattle, goats, and deer.
INDICATIONS
- Poor coat quality (e.g., pale, rough, or “steely” wool in sheep).
- Lowered body condition and reduced growth rates (ill-thrift).
- Infertility or poor reproduction efficiency.
- Anemia and increased death losses in calves born to deficient cows.
- Swayback or other issues with bone/nerve development.
ADMINISTRATION
Copper Bullets boluses are administered orally using a balling gun, a syringe-like applicator that deposits the capsule at the back of the animal’s throat. It is important to ensure the animal swallows the bolus, which can be aided by gentle neck massage, and to keep the bolus at room temperature before administration to prevent it from cracking.
- Prepare the bolus: Remove the bolus from its packaging and ensure it is at room temperature (15–20°C).
- Load the applicator: Place the bolus into the balling gun.
- Open the animal’s mouth: Gently open the animal’s mouth and place the tip of the balling gun at the back of the throat.
- Deposit the bolus: Push the plunger to deposit the bolus into the back of the throat.
- Ensure swallowing: Pull the gun out and gently massage the animal’s throat to encourage it to swallow. Some coughing is normal, but wait to ensure the bolus is not coming back up.
