Enzootic Abortion Vaccine (Copy)

Enzootic Abortion (EAE) vaccine is indicated for the active immunization of susceptible female breeding sheep and goats.

Target Species: Susceptible breeding female sheep (ewes).
Purpose: To aid in the prevention of enzootic abortion.
Vaccination Timing:
- Ewe lambs can be vaccinated from five months of age.
- Shearlings (one year old ewes) and older ewes should be vaccinated during the four-month period prior to mating (tupping).
- Mating should not occur until at least four weeks after vaccination.
Flock Health Plans: Vaccination for EAE should be incorporated into flock health plans, especially if there have been abortion cases in the preceding lambing season (an abortion rate of over two percent, or two or more abortions over a few days).
Revaccination: Historically, annual revaccination was recommended, but current advice may vary by region/product SPC.
Not for use in in pregnant ewes. The vaccine contains a live, attenuated strain of the bacterium, which may cause abortion in pregnant animals.

Dose and Route: A single 2 ml injection of the reconstituted vaccine is given. It can be administered by either intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. Preferred subcutaneous sites include the sides of the neck or the low area on the rib cage, behind the front leg. The preferred intramuscular site is the heavy neck muscle near the back of the head.
Vaccination Timing: Ewe lambs can be vaccinated from five months of age. Older ewes and shearling ewes should be vaccinated during the four months before mating. Vaccination should occur at least four weeks before mating. This vaccine should not be used in pregnant ewes.
Revaccination: Generally, one vaccination provides protection for several years, often requiring re-vaccination only after two years or a strategic vaccination every four years.
