Framycetin is a used for the treatment of ear and eye infections in both dogs and cats.
INDICATIONS
- Otic Infections (Ear): Treatment of otitis externa, including cases involving Pseudomonas spp. and Proteus spp. in dogs and cats. It is often combined with other agents (like in Canaural) to treat ear mites (Otodectes cynotis) and associated infections.
- Ocular Infections (Eye): Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, and corneal ulcers. It is also used for prophylaxis of infections following foreign body removal.
ADMINISTRATION
Topical Administration (Skin, Ears, Eyes)
This is a frequent route for companion animals like dogs and cats when treating infections localized to specific areas.
- Ear (Aural): For conditions like otitis externa, the medication is instilled into the ear canal. Gentle massage of the ear base is often recommended to help the medication penetrate.
- Eye (Ophthalmic): Applied as drops or ointments for eye infections such as conjunctivitis.
- Skin (Dermal): Applied as a cream or ointment directly to infected wounds, burns, or cuts.
