Mastalone Intramammary Suspension Syringe

Mastalone (Oleandomycin) is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial mastitis in lactating dairy cows, by infusing the entire contents of a single syringe directly into each affected udder quarter after milking, typically repeating every 12 hours.

Mastalone (Oleandomycin) is indicated for the local treatment of acute and chronic mastitis in lactating dairy cattle.

INDICATIONS

  • Treatment of Mastitis: Mastalone is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combination used to treat both acute and chronic cases of bacterial mastitis.
  • Target Microorganisms: It is effective against a wide range of bacteria commonly associated with bovine mastitis, including Staphylococci and Streptococci species.
  • Second-Line Treatment: Due to it containing critically important antibiotics, it is often reserved for severe cases or as a second-line treatment when other, less critical, antibiotics have failed or are clinically determined to be ineffective.
  • Reducing Inflammation: The formulation includes prednisolone, an anti-inflammatory agent, which helps to reduce udder inflammation and hasten the recovery of milk quality.

ADMINISTRATION

Administered directly into the udder via the teat canal. The full course of treatment involves 3 infusions per infected quarter.
  1. Milk the udder completely: Ensure the affected quarter(s) are thoroughly stripped out before treatment.
  2. Clean and disinfect the teat: Wash and dry the udder and teats thoroughly. Use the alcohol swabs provided to clean and disinfect the teat orifice to prevent introducing new bacteria.
  3. Infuse the suspension:
    • Remove the cap from the syringe nozzle.
    • Carefully insert the nozzle tip into the teat opening (some products offer a choice of partial or full insertion).
    • Squeeze the entire contents of the syringe slowly into the quarter using gentle and continuous pressure.
  4. Massage the udder: Gently massage the treated quarter from the bottom of the teat upwards to help disperse the medication into the milk cistern.
  5. Repeat treatment: The treatment should be repeated at 24-hour intervals (or every 12 hours depending on the specific product’s instructions and the severity of the case) for a total of three treatments.
