Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Vaccine

Boehringer’s Ingelvac PRRS vaccine is indicated for the protection of healthy swine from the PRRS virus.
INDICATIONS
- Gilts & Sows:
- Acclimatization: To prepare replacement gilts for breeding.
- Reproductive Protection: To prevent abortions, stillbirths, and weak piglets in sows during gestation.
- Emergency Use: To minimize reproductive losses during outbreaks.
- Piglets & Growing Pigs:
- Respiratory Protection: To reduce severe respiratory signs, viremia, and improve growth.
- Post-Stabilization: In herds with stabilized PRRS, vaccination can start at 3-7 weeks of age.
ADMINISTRATION
- Intramuscular (IM) Injection: The most traditional method, injecting the vaccine into a muscle (like the neck).
- Intradermal (ID) Injection: Delivered into the skin, sometimes with needle-free jet injectors, common for young piglets.
- Intranasal (IN) Spray: A newer approach, aiming for better respiratory protection, as PRRSV is a respiratory pathogen.
Vaccines & Delivery:
- Modified Live Virus (MLV): Often given IM or ID, they are popular for providing good protection.
- Killed Virus (KV): Safer but generally less effective, also given IM.
- Solid Dose: A novel method where a solid vaccine pellet is delivered under the skin using a device.
