INDICATIONS

• Broiler and Replacement Chickens: This is its most common use, effective against species such as Eimeria tenella, E. acervulina, E. maxima, E. necatrix, E. brunetti, and E. mitis.
• Quail.
• Young Cattle and Sheep (Calves and Lambs): It is indicated for the control of eimeriosis in young ruminants with developed forestomachs.
• Pigs/Piglets: Used to help manage post-weaning diarrhea and hemorrhagic enteritis by improving gut health.
• Rabbits (for fattening).

Secondary Indications and Benefits

• Antibacterial Activity: It has an inhibitory effect on certain Gram-positive bacteria, including Clostridium perfringens, which helps reduce the incidence of necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens. 
• Growth Promoter: In certain livestock, such as cattle and swine, it is used to enhance growth rates and improve feed efficiency. By controlling gut pathogens and altering the microbial population in the gut, it improves nutrient absorption.
• Antibacterial Activity: Salinomycin is effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including Clostridium perfringens, which helps in preventing bacterial infections like necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens. 

ADMINISTRATION

• Method: The powder (premix) is first diluted in an intermediate blending step before being mixed into the final complete feed for group administration. It must not be fed undiluted or directly to animals.
• Target Species: It is approved for use in broiler chickens, replacement pullets, quail, rabbits, beef cattle, and swine.
• Non-Target Species: It is highly toxic and can be fatal to non-target species, most notably horses, adult turkeys, and ducks.
• Contraindications: Not for use with certain other antibiotics, such as tiamulin or oleandomycin, as this can lead to toxicosis.
