Sulfachloropyridazine (SCP) powder is a broad-spectrum sulfonamide antimicrobial used against bacterial and protozoal infections in cattle, swine and dogs.

INDICATIONS

  • Intestinal and Gastrointestinal Infections This is a key indication, especially for treating diarrhea (colibacillosis) caused or complicated by E. coli in calves and swine.
  • Coccidiosis The powder is commonly used to treat or prevent coccidial infections in poultry, sheep, and rabbits.
  • Respiratory Tract Infections It is used to manage various bacterial respiratory diseases, including pneumonia in cattle and swine.
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) Sulfachloropyridazine is used to treat UTIs in susceptible animals.
  • Other Bacterial Infections This includes conditions like avian cholera, fowl typhoid in poultry, and some soft tissue infections in cattle and swine.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Cattle (calves under 1 month of age): Treatment of diarrhea caused or complicated by E. coli. It is available as an injectable intravenous solution and a water-soluble powder formulation.
  • Swine: Treatment of diarrhea caused or complicated by E. coli.
  • Dogs: Treatment of infections caused by E. coli and other Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including infectious tracheobronchitis.
  • Medicated Drinking Water (Herd Treatment): For herd or flock treatments (e.g., in swine and poultry), the powder is dissolved in the drinking water supply.
    • Preparation: The required amount of powder is mixed vigorously with water to ensure complete dissolution, usually in a stock solution first, and then diluted to the final concentration in the main water supply.
    • Important Considerations:
      • The medicated water must be the sole source of drinking water for the treatment duration to ensure the animals receive the correct dose.
      • Fresh solutions must be prepared daily, as the product’s stability in water is limited (e.g., typically 24 hours).
      • Water intake should be monitored to confirm adequate consumption.
      • Do not mix with water containing chlorine or hydrogen peroxide, as these agents can degrade the active substance.
  • Oral Drench/Suspension (Individual Treatment): For individual treatment of animals (e.g., calves, swine), the powder can be mixed with water, milk, or milk replacer to form an oral suspension or drench.
    • Preparation: The powder is mixed with the specified liquid according to the product directions.
    • Important Considerations:
      • Ensure the entire dose is swallowed by the animal.
      • Medicated milk replacer solutions should be consumed within 1 hour of preparation.
