INDICATIONS

  • Respiratory Tract Infections: Including bacterial pneumonias, bovine pneumonic pasteurellosis (shipping fever), and bronchitis.
  • Alimentary (Digestive) Tract Infections: Including salmonellosis, colibacillosis, enteritis, and post-weaning scours in pigs.
  • Urogenital Tract Infections: Including nephritis, cystitis, urethritis, and metritis.
  • Other Infections: Septicaemias, infectious pododermatitis (foot rot), bacterial arthritis, and mastitis-metritis-agalactia (MMA) syndrome in sows.
  • Cattle & Swine: Primarily used for respiratory, alimentary, and systemic infections.
  • Horses & Dogs: Slow intravenous injection.

ADMINISTRATION

Sulfadoxine + Trimethoprim injection is a potent anti-infective typically administered by slow intravenous (IV) injection or infusion, although it may be given by other routes (such as intramuscular) depending on the animal species.
  • Method: Slow intravenous injection is preferred, though in some cases (pigs, goats) intramuscular (IM) injection is used.
  • Dosage: The standard dose is generally around 15 mg to 25 mg of the combined active ingredients per kilogram of body weight per day, often administered as 1 ml per 10-16 kg body weight.
  • Speed: Intravenous administration must be done slowly to avoid shock.
  • Precautions: Adequate hydration must be maintained during treatment, and it should not be used in animals with severe liver or kidney damage.
