Dechra Animax ointment (containing thiostrepton) is used for treating dermatitis and otitis in pets.

INDICATIONS

• Otitis Externa: Effective for treating acute and chronic ear infections.
• Dermatitis: Manages skin disorders characterized by inflammation, including eczematous dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis.
• Infected Skin Lesions/Cysts: Used for interdigital cysts and other bacterial or candidal (Candida albicans) infections.
• Anal Gland Infections: Used for infected anal glands in dogs.
• Supportive Care: Acts as an adjunct for dermatitis linked to parasitic infestations.

ADMINISTRATION

• Skin Infections: Clean and dry the affected area, removing any debris. Apply a thin layer of ointment, rubbing it in sparingly.
• Ear Infections (Otitis): Clean the ear canal to remove debris and check for ruptured tympanic membrane (do not use if ruptured). Instill 3 to 5 drops of ointment into the ear canal.
• Anal Glands/Cysts: Drain the gland or cyst before applying the ointment.
• Safety Precautions: Always wear gloves or wash hands immediately after application.
• Prevention: Prevent the pet from licking the area for at least 20–30 minutes after application to ensure effectiveness.
• Frequency: Often prescribed to be used every 12 hours (twice daily), though this varies depending on the severity of the condition.
