INDICATIONS

• Anti-inflammatory: Used at lower doses to manage pain, discomfort, swelling, redness, and itching associated with conditions like allergies, arthritis, skin diseases, asthma, and inflammatory bowel disease.
• Immunosuppressant: Used at higher doses to suppress the immune system in cases where it is overactive and attacking the body’s own tissues, such as with autoimmune diseases (e.g., lupus, immune-mediated hemolytic anemia).
• Antineoplastic: Used to help treat certain types of cancers, especially lymphomas and mast cell tumors.
• Hormone Replacement: Used as replacement therapy for endocrine disorders like Addison’s disease (hypoadrenocorticism), where the adrenal glands do not produce enough natural hormones.
• Emergency Situations: May be used in emergencies such as severe allergic reactions, or spinal cord trauma to reduce swelling.
• Ketosis in Cattle: Highly effective for the treatment of bovine ketosis, helping to restore normal blood glucose and appetite. 

ADMINISTRATION

• Intramuscular (IM) injection: This is the most frequent method for systemic treatment (affecting the whole body) in large and small animals when a sustained effect is needed. The injection is given deep into the muscle.
• Intravenous (IV) injection or infusion: In emergency situations (such as shock), some specific formulations of prednisolone (like methylprednisolone sodium succinate) may be administered directly into a vein to achieve an immediate effect.
• Intra-articular injection: For localized inflammatory joint conditions (e.g., arthritis, bursitis), the injection may be given directly into the affected joint by a veterinarian under strict aseptic conditions.
• Subcutaneous (SC) injection: While some other medications are given subcutaneously (under the skin), the primary systemic route for prednisolone injection is intramuscular.
