Detomidine is used primarily as a sedative, anesthetic adjunct, and analgesia. It is used in horses more often than in other species. When used to treat pain from colic in horses, the duration of effect is approximately 3 hours (20 or 40 mcg/kg). Can be used safely in horses for a variety of minor surgical and diagnostic procedures.
