AgriHealth NZ MetriVet is a single dose intra-uterine antibiotic syringe for dairy cows, used to improve reproductive performance by treating infections of the uterine lining.
INDICATIONS
- Endometritis Treatment: It is indicated for treating subacute and chronic endometritis in cows, typically administered at least 14 days after calving (post-parturition). It targets inflammation caused by bacteria sensitive to its active ingredient, cephapirin.
- “Repeat Breeder” Cows: It can be used for cows that have had more than three unsuccessful inseminations, provided a bacterial infection is suspected as the underlying cause of the fertility issue.
ADMINISTRATION
MetriVet is provided as a pre-filled, single-dose intra-uterine syringe with a disposable catheter and glove.
- Preparation: Thoroughly clean and disinfect the vulva area.
- Access: Attach the syringe to the catheter. Using a gloved hand in the rectum, locate and hold the cervix.
- Insertion: Pass the catheter through the cervix into the lumen of the uterus, which may require gentle manipulation of the cervix.
- Infusion: Inject the full contents of the syringe into the uterus.
- Withdrawal: Carefully withdraw the catheter.
