Reomune 3 Vaccine

Ceva Reomune 3 is an inactivated vaccine for chickens that provides passive immunity to their progeny against diseases caused by specific avian reoviruses, including tenosynovitis (viral arthritis), and the Malabsorption syndrome. It is given to broiler breeders, and it works by transferring maternal antibodies to offspring, helping to prevent these reovirus-related issues from birth.

Reovirus vaccine is indicated for use in chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys to prevent diseases caused by avian reoviruses.

INDICATIONS

  • Active immunization of healthy chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese to reduce the clinical signs of disease, such as lameness, swollen joints, and poor growth.
  • Passive immunization of progeny (chicks, poults, ducklings) via vaccination of parent breeding stock. The antibodies are passed through the egg, protecting the offspring during their susceptible early phase of life, when they are most at risk of mortality and severe clinical signs.
  • Control of specific syndromes associated with reovirus infections, including:
    • Tenosynovitis (viral arthritis)
    • Malabsorption/pale bird syndrome
    • Growth retardation and immunosuppression

ADMINISTRATION

  • Intramuscular (IM) Injection: The vaccine is injected into a large muscle mass, most commonly the thigh or chest (breast) muscle.
  • Subcutaneous (SC) Injection: The vaccine is injected just under the loose skin, typically in the lower back part of the neck.
Dosage and Preparation
  • Dosage: A typical dose for chickens is 0.5 mL per bird for inactivated vaccines and 0.2 mL for live, freeze-dried vaccines (after reconstitution).
  • Preparation:
    • Vaccines should be allowed to reach ambient or room temperature (typically 15°C–25°C or 60°F–80°F) before use.
    • Oil emulsion (inactivated) vaccines must be shaken vigorously before and periodically during use to ensure proper emulsification.
    • Sterile needles and syringes must be used for administration. Disinfectants or antiseptics should not be used on the equipment as they may inactivate the vaccine.
