Trimethoprim

Trimethoprim is indicated for the treatment of bacterial and protozoal infections in dogs, cats, horses, and livestock.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Effective for bladder and prostate infections.
Respiratory Infections: Used for conditions like pneumonia and kennel cough (Bordetella bronchiseptica).
Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Effective against staphylococcal infections in the skin, making it a good choice for skin and ear issues.
Gastrointestinal Infections: Can be used for enteritis and certain types of diarrhea caused by susceptible organisms.
Protozoal Infections: Effective in treating parasitic infections such as Coccidiosis and Toxoplasmosis.

Direct Administration: Can be placed on the back of the animal’s tongue, and their mouth gently held closed until they swallow.
With Food: The medication can be given with or without food. If the pet experiences vomiting or an upset stomach when given on an empty stomach, the next dose can be given with a meal or a treat.
Disguised in Food: For animals that are difficult to pill, disguise the tablet in a strongly flavored food.
Dispersed in Water: Some tablets (such as those for livestock) may be designed to be dispersed in water and administered using a dosing bottle or syringe.
