Virbac Sulfatrim (sulfamethoxazole) is a broad-spectrum anti-infective agent used to treat bacterial infections in various animals.

INDICATIONS

  • Respiratory Tract Infections: Bacterial pneumonias, rhinitis, and secondary bacterial infections following viral illnesses.
  • Gastrointestinal (Alimentary) Tract Infections: Infectious enteritis, colibacillosis, and salmonellosis.
  • Urogenital System Infections: Bladder and prostate infections.
  • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Wound infections, abscesses (though it may be less effective in deep abscesses), and staphylococcal skin infections.
  • Other Conditions:
    • Sepsis and Septicemias.
    • Joint and Bone: Arthritis, foot rot, and joint infections.
    • Protozoal Infections: Coccidiosis and Toxoplasmosis.
    • Mastitis.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Target Species: Cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, dogs, and cats.
  • Routes:
    • Intravenous (IV): Recommended for horses and dogs, should be given slowly to avoid reactions.
    • Intramuscular (IM): Preferred for, or used in, other animals, usually in the neck area.
  • Frequency: Treatments are commonly spaced over several days, or repeated after 48 hours.
  • Important Notes:
    • Injection sites should be alternated.
    • Ensure accurate body weight determination to prevent under-dosing.
