Neogen BotVax B Vaccine

Neogen BotVax B vaccine is used to prevent equine botulism in healthy horses, foals (2+ weeks), and pregnant mares. Protects against various forms of botulism, including forage poisoning, shaker foal syndrome, and wound infections. A WVA Veterinary Medicine.

Neogen BotVax B vaccine is iindicated for the prevention of equine botulism caused by Clostridium botulinum Type B in healthy horses.

INDICATIONS

The vaccine provides protection against the three primary modes of Type B botulism:
  • Forage Poisoning: Ingestion of preformed toxins in contaminated feed like baled hay, haylage, or silage.
  • Shaker Foal Syndrome: Also known as toxicoinfectious botulism, where spores are ingested and produce toxins within the foal’s intestinal tract.
  • Wound Botulism: Infection resulting from spores contaminating wounds, such as injection-site abscesses, umbilical infections, or castration.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Dosage: Each dose is 2 mL.
  • Injection Site: The ideal site is a “triangle” in the neck, located below the nuchal ligament, above the cervical vertebrae, and in front of the shoulder blade.
  • Technique: Use a clean, sterile needle (typically 20-gauge, 1.5-inch) and syringe.
  • Preparation: Shake the vial well before use and ensure the product is not frozen.
