Providean Clostridial 10P Vaccine

Tecnovax Providean Clostridial 10P vaccine protects cattle, sheep and goats against infections caused by Clostridium sordellii, This decavalent vaccine is designed to prevent clostridial diseases, tetanus, and pneumonia.

Tecnovax Providean Clostridial 10P vaccine is specifically designed to protect cattle, sheep and goats against diseases caused by several Clostridium species, including Clostridium septicum.

INDICATIONS

  • Malignant Edema: Protection against the specific disease caused by Clostridium septicum.
  • Wound Infections: Prevents severe, rapidly progressing tissue infections (gas gangrene) that arise from skin wounds, castration sites, or calving injuries.
  • Systemic Protection: Often part of multi-valent vaccines (like 7-way or 8-way) providing immunity against other clostridial threats, including Blackleg (C. chauvoei), Black Disease (C. novyi), and Enterotoxemia (C. perfringens types C & D).
  • At-Risk Animals: For livestock in areas with known clostridial problems or where wounds are common (e.g., during branding, castration, weaning).
  • Preventative Care: A key component of herd health management, particularly in cattle and sheep operations, to prevent sudden outbreaks.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Route: Subcutaneous (under the skin) is preferred over intramuscular (IM) to minimize muscle damage and financial loss in valuable meat animals, as clostridial vaccines can cause large swellings.
  • Site: The preferred injection site is the caudolateral (back and side) neck region, avoiding the hindquarters or loin where meat quality is highest.
  • Technique: A clean needle should be used for withdrawal and a fresh one for injection, avoiding excessively long needles (over 1/2 inch) and ensuring proper restraint.
  • Cattle: Calves often start at 3-4 months, with a booster 2-4 weeks later, and annual revaccination.
  • Sheep & Goats: Similar schedules with initial doses (e.g., from 2 months old) and annual boosters.
