Nika Pharma’s Metaflac Dipyrone (metamizole) injection is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for controlling fever (pyrexia) in horses.

INDICATIONS

  • Equine: Approved by the FDA for the control of pyrexia (fever) in horses. It is also widely used for moderate relief of mild colic, abdominal pain, and gastrointestinal spasms.
  • General/Small Animal: Used for peri- and post-operative pain management in cats and dogs, often used to manage fever (e.g., in Shar-Pei fever).
  • Cattle/Livestock: Employed as an analgesic and antipyretic in pigs, cattle, sheep, and goats to treat acute arthritis, neuritis, mastitis, and pain. 

ADMINISTRATION

  • Method: Intravenous (IV) is common for fast action, often in the jugular vein for large animals, while IM is often used for smaller patients.
  • Speed: IV injections should be administered slowly to avoid shock, particularly in dogs or horses.
  • Frequency: It is often given every 8 to 12 hours depending on the condition being treated (fever, pain, spasm).
  • Site: For IM, use large muscle masses, such as the rear thigh or neck muscles.
