DORANIC Injection

Nicosia DORANIC injection (doramectin) is a broad-spectrum medicine used in cattle and swine to treat parasites including roundworms, lungworms, eyeworms, grubs, lice and mites. A CODEX and WVA Veterinary Medicine.

Nicosia DORANIC injection (doramectin) is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of internal and external parasites in cattle and swine.

INDICATIONS

  • Gastrointestinal roundworms (e.g., Ostertagia ostertagi, Haemonchus placei, Ascaris suum)
  • Lungworms (Dictyocaulus viviparus, Metastrongylus spp.)
  • Eyeworms (Thelazia spp.)
  • Grubs (parasitic stages of Hypoderma spp.)
  • Sucking lice (Haematopinus spp., Linognathus vituli, Solenopotes capillatus)
  • Mange mites (Psoroptes bovis, Sarcoptes scabiei)
  • Kidney worms in swine (Stephanurus dentatus)

ADMINISTRATION

Use clean, dry, and sterile equipment for administration. 
    • Needles:
      • For adult cattle, needle sizes typically range from 16-gauge with a length of 1/2″ to 1-1/2″, depending on whether the administration is subcutaneous or intramuscular.
      • For young cattle, an 18-gauge needle may be used.
      • For swine, needle sizes range from 18 to 20-gauge for young animals, and 16 to 18-gauge for sows and boars.
    • Site: Injections should be administered in the neck region. For subcutaneous injections in cattle, the loose skin in front of or behind the shoulder can also be used.
    • Sheep/Goats: Administer by either intramuscular or subcutaneous routes in the neck or shoulder region.
    • Cattle: Administered via subcutaneous (SC) or intramuscular (IM) injection at a dosage of 200 mcg per kg of body weight (1 mL per 110 lb). The subcutaneous route (under the loose skin in front of or behind the shoulder) is generally preferred according to Beef Quality Assurance guidelines.
    • Swine: Administered via intramuscular (IM) injection only, typically in the neck muscle behind the ear, at a dosage of 300 mcg per kg of body weight (1 mL per 75 lb).
    • Volume: No more than 10 mL should be injected at any one site to avoid tissue irritation.
