Enilconazole is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections in in cattle, horses, and dogs.
INDICATIONS
Enilconazole topical solution Imaveral is a synthetic broad-spectrum antifungal agent effective against common dermatophytes such as:
- Trichophyton verrucosum
- Trichophyton mentagrophytes
- Trichophyton equinum
- Microsporum canis
- Microsporum gypseum
In addition, it has an off-label (extra-label) use for:
- Nasal aspergillosis (a severe fungal infection of the nasal sinuses) in dogs and horses, where it is infused directly into the nasal cavity.
- Environmental decontamination of animal bedding, stalls, cages, and other materials to help prevent the spread and recurrence of fungal spores.
ADMINISTRATION
- Treatment of Fungal Skin Infections (Dermatophytosis/Ringworm): Enilconazole is commonly used as a wash or dip for dogs, cats, cattle, and horses.
- Preparation: The concentrated solution (typically 10%) is diluted in 50 parts of lukewarm water to yield a 0.2% emulsion.
- Application: The diluted solution is applied topically to the animal’s entire body, typically four times at 3- to 4-day intervals. Long-haired animals should be clipped first to ensure the solution reaches the skin.
- Technique: The solution should be rubbed thoroughly against the direction of hair growth to ensure the skin is thoroughly wet. Crusted areas should be brushed gently with a brush soaked in the solution to remove debris. The solution is generally not rinsed off.
- Treatment of Nasal Aspergillosis: In dogs and horses, enilconazole has been successfully instilled directly into the nasal sinuses or guttural pouches through indwelling catheters to treat fungal infections.
