Fusidic acid eye drops are indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis and other superficial eye infections in dogs, cats, and rabbits.
INDICATIONS
- Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Targets infections from Staphylococcus aureus (including Staphylococcus intermedius in dogs).
- Blepharitis/Blepharoconjunctivitis: Inflammation of the eyelids and conjunctiva.
- Superficial Corneal Ulcers: Non-infected ulcers, often following anesthesia, or those with secondary bacterial involvement.
- Keratitis: Inflammation of the cornea.
- Foreign Body Injuries: To prevent or treat secondary bacterial infections.
ADMINISTRATION
- Restrain animal: Hold animal’s head firmly, perhaps against a wall or your body, to prevent sudden movements.
- Clean the eye: Gently wipe away any pus or debris with a damp cotton ball.
- Prepare the drop: With the tube in your dominant hand, use your other hand to hold animal’s head, and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
- Administer the drop: Squeeze one drop into the lower eyelid pocket, being careful not to touch the eye with the nozzle to avoid spreading germs.
- Release and repeat: Let eyelid go; animal’s blink will spread the medication. Repeat for the other eye (treat the uninfected eye first).
- Aftercare: Wash hands and replace the cap tightly. Use within one month of opening.
