Gentamicin Eye Drops

Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial eye infections in dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, cattle, and horses, including conjunctivitis, corneal inflammation, keratoconjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, and eyelid inflammation. Gentamicin eye drops is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial eye infections in dogs, cats, horses, birds, and rabbits.

INDICATIONS

  • Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): Inflammation of the conjunctiva.
  • Keratitis: Inflammation of the cornea (the clear front part of the eye).
  • Corneal Ulcers: Open sores on the surface of the cornea.
  • Blepharitis/Blepharoconjunctivitis: Inflammation of the eyelids and surrounding tissues.
  • Dacryocystitis: Inflammation or infection of the tear duct.
  • Preventative: After trauma, surgery, or foreign body removal to stop infection. 

ADMINISTRATION

  • Preparation: Gently shake the bottle, wash your hands, and prepare your pet (may need towel wrap for control).
  • Positioning: Tilt your pet’s head back, nose towards the ceiling.
  • Application: Pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pouch. Apply 1-2 drops into this pocket. Do not touch the eye with dropper tip.
  • Aftercare: Gently close the eye and let your pet rest. Wait 5 minutes before applying any other eye medication.
  • Duration: Use for the full course prescribed (often 5-10 days) even if symptoms improve, unless directed otherwise by your vet.
