Novobiocin intramammary supplement is indicated for treating bovine mastitis in dairy cows.
INDICATIONS
- Bovine Mastitis: Primary use is for treating infections in dairy cattle.
- Staphylococcus & Streptococcus Species: Effective against key mastitis-causing pathogens, including those resistant to penicillin.
- Dry Cow Therapy: Often administered at the start of the dry period (at least 30 days before calving) to treat subclinical mastitis and prevent new infections.
- Broad-Spectrum Support: Provides activity against Gram-positive bacteria and is often used in combination products (e.g., with penicillin) to address diverse bacterial causes.
ADMINISTRATION
Administered as an intramammary infusion for the treatment of mastitis caused by Staph aureus and Streptococcus agalactiae in both lactating and dry cows.
- Prepare the Cow & Quarters: Milk out the infected quarters completely; wash and dry the udder and teats thoroughly.
- Clean Teat End: Use an alcohol pad (or other antiseptic) to clean the end of each teat and the teat orifice to prevent introducing bacteria.
- Insert Cannula: Gently insert the tip of the antibiotic syringe into the teat canal, using either full or partial insertion depending on the product and situation.
- Infuse Product: Instill the entire contents of the syringe into the quarter.
- Massage: Gently massage the udder to help distribute the suspension throughout the quarter.
- Teat Dip: Dip all teats in a suitable teat dip after treatment.
