Sulfadiazine + Trimethoprim bolus are indicated for treating bacterial infections in cattle, sheep, goats, swine, horses, dogs, and cats.
INDICATIONS
- Respiratory tract infections: Including pneumonia, bronchitis, rhinitis, and strangles in horses.
- Gastrointestinal tract infections: Such as bacterial scours, neonatal diarrhea, salmonellosis, and gastroenteritis.
- Urinary and reproductive tract infections: Including cystitis, vaginitis, urethritis, nephritis, metritis, and post-parturient infections.
- Other infections:
- Severe mastitis and bacterial agalactia in sows.
- Skin and soft tissue infections, such as wound infections and abscesses.
- Infectious pododermatitis (foul-in-the-foot or foot rot) in cattle.
- Infections of the eye, ear, and mouth.
- Certain protozoal infections like coccidiosis and toxoplasmosis (often used off-label or in specific formulations).
ADMINISTRATION
- By hand: For cooperative animals, the bolus may be placed directly into the mouth by hand.
- By balling gun: A balling gun is a common veterinary instrument used to safely and effectively administer boluses to large animals, such as cattle, goats, and horses, by placing the medication at the back of the throat.
- Dispersed in water: The bolus can be crushed and dispersed in water using a dosing bottle or drench for oral administration, particularly for smaller animals like chickens or where an animal refuses the solid form.
DOSAGE
- Cattle: 2 to 3 bolus per day for 3 to 5 days
- Sheep, goat & pig: 1/2 to 1 bolus per day for 3 to 5 days
- Intrauterine use: 1/2 to 1 bolus deep into the uterus for 3 to 5 days
