INDICATIONS
- Surra (Trypanosoma evansi): Specifically indicated for camels, horses, and dogs. In camels, it is often administered as a single intravenous (IV) dose of 10 mg/kg.
- Nagana (African Animal Trypanosomiasis): Used to treat infections caused by Trypanosoma brucei subspecies in domestic animals such as cattle. However, it is generally ineffective against T. vivax and T. congolense.
- Dourine (Trypanosoma equiperdum): Historically used for this sexually transmitted infection in horses.
ADMINISTRATION
- Route: Slow intravenous injection or slow intravenous infusion.
- Preparation: The medication is typically supplied as a powder in a vial and must be dissolved in an appropriate solvent, such as water for injection or 0.9% NaCl solution, before administration.
- Dosage: The specific dosage and frequency depend heavily on the animal species and the condition being treated.
