BAYER Neguvon (trichlorfon) is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic used to control both internal and external parasites in livestock, horses, and poultry.
INDICATIONS
- External Parasites (Ectoparasites): Treatment and control of infestations including ticks, mites, lice, fleas, and various flies (such as buffalo flies or blowflies).
- Gastrointestinal Parasites (Endoparasites):
- Horses: Specifically indicated for bots (Gasterophilus sp.), large roundworms (Parascaris equorum), pinworms (Oxyuris equi), and large or small strongyles.
- Ruminants: Effective against various gastrointestinal roundworms and screwworms.
- Special Conditions:
- Humpsore: Used in cattle to treat humpsore disease.
- Aquaculture: Control of lice infestations in fish (e.g., pond treatment).
Target Species
- Large Animals: Cattle, horses, buffalo, sheep, goats, and camels.
- Poultry: Effective against poultry lice, mites, and ticks.
- Domestic Pets: Sometimes used for dogs and cats, though caution is required due to potential toxicity.
ADMINISTRATION
- Oral Drenching (Liquid Suspension):
- Preparation: Dissolve the prescribed amount of powder into a specific volume of water.
- Technique: Administer the resulting solution orally using a drenching syringe or stomach tube.
- Feed Incorporation:
- Preparation: Mix the powder directly with the animal’s daily grain or meal ration.
- Benefit: This method is often preferred for horses as it is reported to be less toxic and more effective for certain parasites compared to stomach tube administration.
- External Use: Can be used as a wash, spray, or dip when diluted with water.
- Safety: Trichlorfon is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It should not be administered to sick, debilitated, or pregnant animals (especially in late-stage gestation).
