Tulathromycin Injection

Tulathromycin injection is a long-acting macrolide antibiotic used in cattle, swine, and sheep to treat and control specific bacterial infections. Its long duration of action means a single injection is often sufficient. A WOAH Veterinary Medicine.

Tulathromycin is indicated for the treatment and control of specific bacterial infections in cattle, pigs, and sheep.

INDICATIONS

  • Cattle: Tulathromycin is used for both the treatment and control of bovine respiratory disease (BRD). It is also approved for treating infectious bovine pinkeye, and foot rot.
  • Swine (Pigs): It is indicated for the treatment and control of swine respiratory disease (SRD).
  • Sheep: The injection is used to treat the early stages of infectious foot rot
  • Foals: In foals, it has been used extra-label for treating pulmonary abscesses and bronchopneumonia, 

ADMINISTRATION

  • Cattle: Administered via subcutaneous (SC) injection (under the skin) in the neck.
  • Swine (Pigs): Administered via intramuscular (IM) injection (into the muscle) in the neck.
  • Sheep: Administered via intramuscular (IM) injection in the neck. 
Key Dosage Guidelines
  • Cattle: Do not exceed 10 mL (some labels specify 7.5 mL for cattle over 300 kg) per site.
  • Pigs: Do not exceed 2.5 mL (or 2 mL for larger pigs) per site.
  • General Practice: For heavy animals requiring a larger total volume, divide the dose across multiple injection sites.
