INDICATIONS (in Cattle)

  • Actinomycosis (lumpy jaw).
  • Actinobacillosis (wooden tongue).
  • Necrotic stomatitis.
Other Potential Indications
  • As an Expectorant in cases of mild respiratory conditions, as it helps to loosen mucus and improve airway clearance.
  • For Sporotrichosis (a fungal infection) in small animals.
  • For Ringworm (Trichophyton spp.) and other fungal granulomatous conditions in calves and horses.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Route: The injection is for intravenous use only; it must never be injected subcutaneously, as it causes severe irritation and local swelling.
  • Technique: The injection must be administered slowly to minimize adverse reactions. Care must be taken to ensure the needle is properly within the vein (usually the jugular vein in cattle) and to avoid perivascular deposition (injecting outside the vein).
  • Aseptic Procedures: Sterility is critical. Aseptic (sterile) procedures should always be used during administration to prevent infection.
  • Dosage: The typical dose for treating conditions like “lumpy jaw” (actinomycosis) or “wooden tongue” (actinobacillosis) in cattle is 30 mg per pound of body weight (15 mL of a 20% solution per 100 lbs body weight).
  • Frequency: The treatment may be repeated at weekly intervals if the veterinarian deems it necessary.
