Reber Genetics Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDv) vaccine is used for the pre-farrowing vaccination of pregnant sows and gilts.

INDICATIONS

  • Prevention of Neonatal Diarrhea: Indicated for the vaccination of healthy pregnant sows and gilts to provide passive immunity to neonatal piglets through colostrum.
  • Reduction of Mortality: Aimed at decreasing the high mortality rates (often up to 100%) seen in suckling piglets infected with PEDv.
  • Clinical Symptom Mitigation: Used to reduce the severity of symptoms such as acute vomiting, liquid diarrhea, and severe dehydration in pigs.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Routes: The vaccine was tested in two forms: oral (DNA-oral) and intramuscular (DNA-IM) in pregnant sows.
  • Methodology: The DNA vaccine (pTCY‐spike, 260 μg/mL) was mixed with cPNTs (260 μg/mL) to produce a 2 mL dose.
  • Passive Immunity: Immunization of sows with this formulation helps protect suckling piglets via the transfer of antibodies through colostrum.
  • Immune Response: The vaccination induces both T-cell (CD4+, CD8+) responses and significant levels of PEDV-specific IgG and IgA antibodies in the colostrum.
