Methyl Benzoquate Feed Mix

Impextraco Methyl Benzoquate is an anticoccidial drug used in animal feed, to prevent and treat coccidiosis in livestock and poultry. Works by inhibiting the respiration of Eimeria parasites - the protozoa that cause this disease.

Methyl Benzoquate is an anticoccidial drug used in animal feed, to prevent and treat coccidiosis, primarily in poultry.

INDICATIONS

  • Target Condition: Coccidiosis, an intestinal disease caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Eimeria.
  • Target Species: The primary use is in poultry (broilers).
  • Mechanism of Action: Methyl benzoquate is a quinolone coccidiostat that arrests or kills early developmental stages (sporozoites or early trophozoites) of the Eimeria parasites by blocking electron transport in the parasite’s mitochondria.
  • As a Feed Additive: The product is incorporated directly into the animal feed.
  • Prevention, Not Treatment: Used to prevent coccidiosis by inhibiting or killing the Eimeria protozoan parasite during its life cycle, rather than treating an active, clinical outbreak of the disease.

ADMINISTRATION

Because the required dosage in the final feed is extremely low, the drug is first formulated into a premix.
  • Concentration: The pure methyl benzoquate is mixed with an inert carrier (like corn meal or wheat middlings) to create a more manageable bulk volume.
  • Mixing: This step ensures that the active ingredient is stable and can be more easily dispersed when added to larger quantities of feed.
The premix is then added to the bulk animal feed during the manufacturing or on-farm mixing process.
  • Method: It is typically added to a mechanical mixer along with other dietary components, such as grains, minerals, and vitamins.
  • Homogeneity: Thorough mixing is critical to ensure uniform distribution of the medication throughout the feed. For instance, industrial standards may require a specific minimum mixing time after all additives have been included.
Once the feed is medicated, it is administered to the animals as their primary source of nutrition.
  • Route: The administration is oral, typically mixed into the feed.
  • Duration: Methyl benzoquate is generally used for the prevention of coccidiosis, rather than for treating active infections, meaning it is often fed continuously during periods when there is a risk of infection.
