NGL Fine Chem Fluazuron solution is used for the control of ticks in beef cattle.

INDICATIONS

  • Strategic Tick Control: Specifically indicated for the cattle tick
    Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus

, including strains resistant to organophosphates and synthetic pyrethroids.

  • Preventative Treatment: It is used as a prophylactic rather than a “knock-down” treatment. Because it only affects developing ticks (larvae to nymphs, nymphs to adults), it takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks to clear an existing infestation.
  • Population Suppression: It has transovarial effects—treated female ticks may lay eggs, but those eggs fail to hatch or produce viable larvae, reducing future pasture contamination.
  • Long-Term Protection: After topical application (pour-on), fluazuron is absorbed systemically and stored in fat tissues, providing protection for 7 to 12 weeks.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Administration Method: Pour-on. The solution is applied in bands, generally in strips along the backline of the animal from the shoulder to the loins.
  • Dosage: The appropriate dose is determined by the animal’s body weight and the specific product instructions, with varying concentrations used in different regions.
  • Treatment Schedule: It is applied as a treatment per season, with the potential for subsequent applications as directed by product labeling.
  • Systemic Action: After topical application, it is absorbed through the skin or upon licking, enters the bloodstream, and is deposited in fatty tissues. It is then released slowly to provide long-lasting control.
  • Efficacy: It acts as an insect growth regulator, inhibiting chitin synthesis, which stops ticks from molting and eggs from hatching, rather than providing immediate “knock-down” of adult ticks.
