INDICATIONS

Swine and Calves

  • Bacterial pneumonia (including “shipping fever complex” in calves) associated with susceptible organisms such as Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella spp., and Klebsiella spp..
Chickens and Turkeys
  • Chronic respiratory disease (CRD) and air sac disease caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Escherichia coli.
  • Infectious synovitis caused by Mycoplasma synoviae.
  • Bluecomb (transmissible enteritis) in turkeys, which is often complicated by sensitive bacterial organisms.
  • Fowl cholera and fowl typhoid.

ADMINISTRATION

  • In Drinking Water (Mass Medication): This is the most common and practical method for treating groups of animals like poultry, swine, and calves.
    • The powder is mixed into a stock solution using warm water and then added to the animals’ sole source of drinking water.
    • It is crucial to remove all other sources of water until the medicated water has been consumed to ensure the animals receive the correct dosage.
    • Fresh solutions should be prepared daily, as the medication is not stable for more than 24 hours.
    • Galvanized waterers may require more frequent refreshing (every 12 hours) due to potential interactions.
  • As a Drench or with a Dose Syringe (Individual Treatment): For individual calves or large animals, a more concentrated solution can be prepared and administered directly into the animal’s mouth as a drench or using a dose syringe.
  • In Liquid Feed/Milk Replacer (Specific Caution): The powder can be mixed into liquid feed or milk replacers for calves and small animals. However, some product labels specifically state not to mix the product with milk or milk replacers, as calcium salts can impair absorption. If administered to baby calves or pigs, it should generally be given an hour before or two hours after milk feeding
