Josamycin tablets are indicated in poultry and swine for the prevention and treatment of a variety of bacterial infections.

INDICATIONS

  • Poultry (Chickens and Turkeys):
    • Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD): Effective against respiratory infections caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum.
    • Infectious Sinusitis: Treatment of inflammation in the sinuses.
    • Infectious Synovitis: Treatment of joint-related infections.
    • Arthritis: Used to treat joint inflammation caused by susceptible Gram-positive germs.
  • Swine (Pigs):

ADMINISTRATION

  • Direct Oral Dosing: Tablets are given by mouth. For larger animals, a balling gun can be used to ensure the tablet is swallowed.
  • Whole Tablet Requirement: To prevent degradation by stomach acid, tablets should generally be administered whole. Crushing or dividing tablets can reduce their efficacy, as macrolides are sensitive to gastric acids.
  • Empty Stomach vs. Food: For maximum absorption in some species, it is recommended to administer the dose on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2–3 hours after a meal).
  • Divided Dosing: The daily dose is often split into two divided doses (e.g., morning and evening).
  • Hydration: Always follow oral administration with a small amount of water to ensure the tablet reaches the stomach and to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation.
