Sulfacetamide eye drops are indicated for the topical treatment of bacterial eye infections.

  • Superficial Ocular Infections: It is indicated for other surface-level eye infections caused by specific bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and certain Streptococcus, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, and Enterobacter species.
  • Adjunct Therapy: It may be used as an adjunct to systemic antibiotics for conditions like trachoma.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Position Your Pet: Stand or sit behind animal, which makes it easier to control their head and body.
  • Prepare the Eye:
    • Gently lift animal’s head upward by holding underneath its muzzle with your non-dominant hand.
    • Use the index finger of your non-dominant hand to pull the lower eyelid down to form a small pocket or pouch.
  • Apply the Drops:
    • Hold the dropper (tip down) with your dominant hand, as close to the eye as possible without touching it.
    • Gently squeeze the bottle to instill the prescribed number of drops into the pocket made by the lower eyelid.
  • Allow Medication to Spread: Release the eyelid and allow your pet to blink a few times to spread the medication over the eye’s surface.
