Terdecamycin Feed Mix

Vetindia's Terdecamycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in swine. Highly effective in the prevention and treatment of swine dysentery and pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniaA WOAH Veterinary Medicine.

Terdecamycin is a macrolide antibiotic indicated for the treatment of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in swine.

INDICATIONS

  • Swine dysentery: In experimental tests, terdecamycin in feed at concentrations of 5 ppm or 10 ppm completely inhibited clinical signs, lesions, and colonization of Serpulina hyodysenteriae (now Brachyspira hyodysenteriae) in the colon. A therapeutic treatment with 20 ppm also effectively improved clinical signs and eradicated the bacteria.
  • Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infections: When administered in feed, terdecamycin reduced coughing and lung lesions, and improved weight gain in pigs infected with M. hyopneumoniae, showing equal or better efficacy compared to other macrolides like tylosin or josamycin.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Medicated Feed: In swine, terdecamycin is administered by mixing it into dry feed. Studies have evaluated its effectiveness against Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae when given continuously for periods ranging from 10 to 42 days as a feed additive.
  • Oral (General): Like other macrolide-related antibiotics, it is designed for oral ingestion to achieve systemic absorption.
Species and Indications
  • Swine: Terdecamycin is indicated for the treatment or prevention of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (enzootic pneumonia) and for improving growth performance in swine.
  • Cattle & Other Livestock: While research has primarily focused on swine, its use in other food animals would follow similar medicated feed or oral protocols.
