Penicillin G procaine is indicated for bacterial infections, primarily respiratory and systemic, in cattle, sheep, swine, and horses.
INDICATIONS
- Cattle & Sheep: Bacterial pneumonia (shipping fever) caused by Pasteurella multocida.
- Swine (Pigs): Erysipelas (cellulitis) caused by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.
- Horses: Strangles caused by Streptococcus equi.
- Broader Use (Cattle, Sheep, Swine): Systemic infections, including navel/joint ill, respiratory infections, and secondary bacterial invaders in viral diseases, as well as some urinary tract infections.
ADMINISTRATION
- Prepare the Vial: The Norocillin vial should be warmed to room temperature and shaken well to ensure the suspension is uniform.
- Determine Dosage based on the animal’s weight.
- Choose Injection Site: The injection should be administered deeply into a muscle, taking care to avoid major blood vessels.
- Inject Slowly: The medication should be injected slowly, and it is generally recommended to avoid injecting large volumes into a single site to minimize the risk of adverse reactions.
- Observe for Reactions: Monitor the animal closely for a period of time, as severe allergic reactions can occur.
