Effectively controls parasites at the recommended dose. An FAO/WHO Veterinary Medicine.

Abamectin injection is indicated for the treatment and control of a broad spectrum of internal and external parasites in livestock such as cattle, sheep, goats, camels, and swine.

INDICATIONS

  • Gastrointestinal Roundworms: This covers a wide range of nematodes, including adult and immature stages of small brown stomach worm (Ostertagia ostertagi), barber’s pole worm (Haemonchus placei), stomach hair worm (Trichostrongylus axei), intestinal hair worm (Trichostrongylus colubriformis), small intestinal worm (Cooperia spp.), hookworm (Bunostomum phlebotomum), and nodule worm (Oesophagostomum radiatum).
  • Lungworms: It effectively controls both adult and immature stages of Dictyocaulus viviparus.
  • External Parasites (Ectoparasites): Abamectin treats various external infestations:
    • Lice: Sucking lice, such as Linognathus vituli (note: not effective against biting lice).
    • Mites: Mange mites (Sarcoptes scabiei) in pigs and cattle mites (e.g., Psoroptes, Chorioptes bovis).
    • Ticks: Aids in the control of cattle ticks (Boophilus microplus).
    • Grubs/Flies: Effective against cattle grubs/warbles (Hypoderma larvae) and nasal bots in sheep.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Administration: The injection is given subcutaneously, typically under the loose skin in front of or behind the shoulder.
  • Dosage: Dosage is based on the animal’s weight and species:
      • Cattle and camelids:
ml per 100 kg of body weight.

      • Sheep and goats:
ml per 100 kg of body weight.
      • Swine:

.5 ml per 33 kg of body weight.

  • Frequency: A single injection is often sufficient for treatment. For some conditions, such as grubs, a repeat dose after 28 days may be necessary.
  • Timing: For sows, it’s recommended to treat them before farrowing, preferably 4-16 days beforehand, to minimize the risk of infecting piglets.
