INDICATIONS

• Aspiration pneumonia
• Intra-abdominal infections (e.g., related to the liver, gallbladder, or intestines)
• Skin and soft tissue infections, including those from animal bites or puncture wounds
• Urinary tract infections, particularly those involving pyelonephritis (kidney infection)
• Systemic infections like sepsis or septicemia (blood poisoning)
• Bone and joint infections
• Infections associated with … acute kidney injury or hepatopathy, such as leptospirosis

• Administration: Typically administered as a slow injection or infusion, or by deep intramuscular (IM) injection. The specific route depends on the formulation (ampicillin trihydrate should not be given IV) and the severity of the condition.
• Dosage: The dosage and frequency vary significantly based on the animal species, the severity of the infection, and the animal’s kidney function. Dosing in dogs and cats is often an “extra-label” use, so the veterinarian’s instructions must be followed carefully.
• Treatment Duration: Treatment should continue for 48 to 72 hours after the animal has become asymptomatic or afebrile, and the entire course prescribed by the veterinarian should be completed to prevent relapse or resistance.
