Ampicillan & Sulbactam Injection

Ampicillin & Sulbactam is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, particularly those caused by bacteria that are resistant to ampicillin alone. Primarily used in hospitalized animals (dogs, cats, horses, and cattle) for conditions where a strong, wide-ranging antibiotic is necessary. A WOAH Veterinary Medicine.

Ampicillin & Sulbactam is a potentiated amino-penicillin used primarily for treating bacterial infections in dogs, cats, horses, and cattle.

INDICATIONS

  • Aspiration pneumonia
  • Intra-abdominal infections (e.g., related to the liver, gallbladder, or intestines)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections, including those from animal bites or puncture wounds
  • Urinary tract infections, particularly those involving pyelonephritis (kidney infection)
  • Systemic infections like sepsis or septicemia (blood poisoning)
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Infections associated with … acute kidney injury or hepatopathy, such as leptospirosis.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Intravenous (IV):
    • Administered by a vet directly into a vein.
    • Can be given as a slow, direct injection (10-15 mins) or as a diluted infusion (15-30 mins) in a larger fluid volume (50-100 mL).
  • Intramuscular (IM):
    • Given as a deep injection into a large muscle.
    • Requires proper dilution and technique for comfort and absorption.
