CICLASE DL Cloprostenol Injection

D-L Cloprostenol is a synthetic prostaglandin for reproductive management in animals. It is used to synchronize estrus, induce ovulation, terminate pregnancy, and treat reproductive disorders like pyometra and luteal cysts in cattle, pigs, and horses.

D-L Cloprostenol is a synthetic prostaglandin used to manipulate the reproductive cycle, and treat certain reproductive conditions in cattle, pigs, and horses.

INDICATIONS (For Cattle)

  • Estrus Synchronization and Induction: Used to schedule estrus (heat) and ovulation in cycling cows and heifers for controlled breeding and artificial insemination programs.
  • Treatment of Ovarian Dysfunctions: Effective in managing conditions like unobserved/non-detected estrus (“silent heat”) and ovarian luteal cysts, which are associated with a persistent CL.
  • Treatment of Uterine Conditions: Used as part of therapy for chronic endometritis and pyometra (uterine infection characterized by purulent matter accumulation), as it helps the uterus evacuate its contents.
  • Termination of Pregnancy: Can be used to safely and efficiently terminate unwanted pregnancies (mismating) up to a certain stage of gestation (typically the first 4 to 5 months).
  • Management of Abnormal Pregnancy: Aids in the expulsion of a mummified fetus.
  • Induction of Parturition: Can be administered to induce labor around the normal term of gestation.
For Pigs (Sows)
  • Induction of Parturition (Farrowing): Used to induce farrowing in sows and gilts to manage and synchronize farrowing schedules.
For Horses (Mares)
  • Induction of Luteolysis: Used in mares with a functional or persistent corpus luteum to induce a return to estrus and normal ovulation, which aids in stud management.
  • Termination of Pregnancy: Can be used to terminate pregnancy in the early stages, though this application requires careful veterinary supervision.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Route: Deep intramuscular injection is the standard route of administration.
  • Aseptic Technique: Careful aseptic techniques must be used to minimize the risk of post-injection bacterial infections, which can be severe in rare cases.
  • Equipment: A standard needle and syringe are used, though needle-free injection systems have also been shown to be effective. For multi-dose vials, the use of a multiple-dose syringe or a suitable draw-off needle is recommended to avoid excessive stopper punctures.
  • Dosage: The specific dosage (e.g., 2 mL in cattle or swine) depends on the animal species and the condition being treated (e.g., estrus synchronization, pyometra, abortion).
