Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate eye drops are a potent corticosteroid used to reduce severe inflammation, redness, and swelling from injuries or conditions like conjunctivitis in dogs, cats, and horses. A WVA Veterinary Medicine.

Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate eye drops are indicated for the treatment of inflammatory and allergic conditions of the eye in dogs, cats, and horses.

INDICATIONS

  • Inflammatory Conditions: General inflammation, burning, and redness in the eye.
  • Allergies: Allergic conjunctivitis (pink eye).
  • Injuries: Inflammation from corneal damage, chemical/thermal burns, or foreign objects.
  • Specific Eye Diseases: Iritis, cyclitis, superficial punctate keratitis, Herpes zoster keratitis (in specific cases).
  • Infections: Selected conjunctivitis or otitis externa when steroid benefits outweigh infection risks (often combined with antibiotics).

 ADMINISTRATION

  1. Preparation: Wash your hands thoroughly and dry them. Shake the bottle well to mix the medication.
  2. Positioning: Have the animal lie down or sit, and gently tilt their head back.
  3. Application:
    • Pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pouch.
    • Hold the dropper close to the eye but do not let the tip touch the eye or anything else to prevent contamination.
    • Administer the exact number of drops prescribed by the vet into the pouch.
    • Gently release the eyelid and have the animal close their eye for a minute or two to spread the medication.
  4. Timing (If using other drops): Wait 5 minutes between different eye medications; use drops before ointments.
  5. Aftercare: Gently wipe away any excess liquid from the animal’s face with a damp cloth.
