Marbomet injection (Marbofloxacin) is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in cattle and pigs.

INDICATIONS

• Cattle:
  • Respiratory infections (Bovine Respiratory Disease or BRD): Caused by susceptible bacteria such as Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, and Histophilus somni.
  • Acute mastitis: Caused by susceptible E. coli strains.
• Pigs (Sows):
  • Metritis Mastitis Agalactia (MMA) syndrome: Also known as Postpartum Dysgalactia Syndrome (PDS). 

ADMINISTRATION

• Administration Routes: The injection can be administered via intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SC), and in some cases, the first dose may be given intravenously (IV).
• Target Species: The injectable formulation is typically used in cattle and pigs.
• Dosage: The dosage and duration of treatment vary depending on the species, the type of infection, and the product concentration used. A common regimen for cattle and pigs is 2 mg per kg of body weight daily for 3 to 5 days. For some severe respiratory infections in cattle, a single, higher dose of 8 mg/kg may be used.
• Action: As a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, it is bactericidal (kills bacteria) by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, which prevents the bacteria from replicating.
• Resistance: Its use should ideally be based on the results of an antimicrobial susceptibility test to ensure the target bacteria are susceptible and to minimize resistance development.
